Position Overview
We are a consulting firm working with local governments and indigenous communities across BC on planning and policy projects that support vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities. This position may also support our Infrastructure Planning Engineers. We are currently seeking a Planning & GIS Technician to join our growing team.

In this role, you will provide technical and analytical support to projects involving community planning, housing policy, indigenous services, development and infrastructure planning. You will be responsible for preparing high-quality maps, spatial analyses, and technical drawings, as well as supporting public consultation materials, reports, and client deliverables. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career or looking to grow in a hands-on planning tech/GIS support role within a collaborative consulting team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare high-quality maps, graphics, and spatial analysis using GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro/QGIS) to support planning deliverables such as OCP updates, zoning bylaws, and housing strategies.
  • Assist with CAD-based site planning, land use diagrams, or conceptual layout drawings.
  • Support data collection and analysis using a variety of spatial and non-spatial datasets (e.g., Census, BC Assessment, CMHC).
  • Organize and interpret development application information, such as zoning, land use designations, or subdivision layouts.
  • Help prepare materials for public engagement, including boards, infographics, and presentations.
  • Contribute to report formatting, visual layout, and data visualization.
  • Support the preparation of policy documents, briefing notes, and summaries for clients.
  • Occasionally support infrastructure-related projects (e.g., servicing mapping, transportation plans, growth area analysis).

Must have:
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in GIS, Urban/Community/Regional Planning, Geography, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a municipal, consulting, or development environment in a planning, GIS, or technical role.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or QGIS) for spatial data handling, map creation, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Familiarity with land use planning principles, zoning bylaws, and municipal planning processes.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including tabular data analysis, pivot tables, charts, and lookup functions.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) is a great asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce clean, accurate visuals and outputs.
  • Strong organization, time management, and communication skills.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working on projects related to community planning, housing policy, climate planning, and growth management.
  • Familiarity with BC’s legislative and regulatory planning framework (e.g., Local Government Act, Bills 16/44/46/47).
  • Experience working with development applications or municipal review processes.
  • Interest in inclusive planning and applying equity or sustainability lenses to planning work.
  • Previous experience supporting public engagement (e.g., mapping tools, survey data, info graphics including Adobe).

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
