Position Overview: 

As our Field Inspector, you will serve as the Engineer’s primary field contact, communicating with contractors, franchise utilities, municipal representatives, general public, and our clients. Your primary obligation is to ensure successful implementation of our engineering designs; ensuring construction complies with the design and municipal standards and specifications. In addition, the following responsibilities are required for this role:  

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Review and understanding of engineering design drawings and other technical documentation for various site development and capital works projects. 
  • Perform field observations to ensure compliance with the standards and specifications as well as other contractual obligations.  
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports as required. 
  • Perform ESC inspections and reports as required.  
  • Review and understand the construction contracts and conduct contract administration by referring to and enforcing the contractual terms throughout construction and post construction.  
  • Review contractor invoicing and prepare monthly progress payments.  
  • Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and residents (general public). 
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and municipal staff and make notes and records for project documentation and see through the completion of such action items in a timely manner. 
  • Involvement with the review of draft and final copies of the as-constructed drawings to ensure that the information shown accurately reflects the work performed in the field. 
  • Assist Project Manager in preparing tenders, cost estimates, and project schedules.  
  • Conduct CCC and FAC inspections, prepare applications including security reductions, and ensure deficiencies are documented and rectified for project close-out.  
  • Other field-related duties, as necessary.  


 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a field inspector of civil construction (Earthworks, utilities, and surface improvements and other related infrastructure)  
  • Registered or qualified to register as a Technician or Technologist with ASET is an asset.  
  • Possess knowledge of local municipal construction standards and specifications. 
  • Effective communication skills are critical to this role.  
  • Strong safety mindset with adherence to Company, Contractor, & OH&S standards & regulations. 
  • Professional, positive attitude.  
  • Ability to problem-solve first, in a time-sensitive environment. 
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines. 
  • Must have valid Provincial Driver’s License with clean drivers abstract. 
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, etc.
